96 Points, Wine Enthusiast
The grapefruit and honey aromas of this wine are echoed in its crisp and rounded textures. It is ripe with apple and spice flavors, the wood aging subtly in the background. Drink from 2027.

95 Points, Wine Spectator
This crackles with tarragon, fleur de sel, oyster shell and lemon pith notes that ripple throughout, while a steady core of yuzu and mirabelle plum moves through. Live-wire acidity keeps everything focused and mouthwatering. Lovely. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion. Drink now.

94 Points, James Suckling
Sliced lemon, crushed stone, ginger and oyster shell aromas follow through to a medium body with crisp acidity and a crunchy finish. A very typical top wine from Pessac. Drink now.

94 Points, Jane Anson
Gunsmoke, stone fruits, elderflower, cold ash, oyster shell, spice. As it opens thorugh the palate, creamy stone fruits add depth, grip and lift. Great quality, precise and with huge persistency. Excellent quality from this always consistent estate.

Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest and largest estates in Pessac-Léognan and one of a select few wineries to be Grand Cru Classé for both its red and white wines. Founded in the 13th century by Benedictine monks, this is a dual-classified icon with a legendary history.

Here’s my favorite Carbonnieux story: In the 18th century, the monks exported their clear, vibrant white wine to the Sultan of Constantinople. Because Islamic law forbade wine consumption, they labeled the bottles as “Mineral Water from Carbonnieux.” The Sultan was reportedly so impressed by the “clarity and purity” of this water that he wondered why the French bothered making wine at all.

This is a true benchmark for the region: a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fermented and aged in oak barrels for 10 months. Celebrated for its aromatic complexity, distinct flinty minerality, and creamy texture that allows it to age beautifully for 10-15 years.
