Pizza demands juicy, fresh wine and time and time again, I find myself reaching for anything Cristina Brunori makes. A world-class producer of Tuesday nighters, her old vines, mineral soil, and the temperate winds of the Adriatic all help produce vibrantly flavored grapes. She says her job is to not mess up what Mother Nature is so good at making.
Brunori wines always represent great bang for the buck. Very rarely can find such pristine fruit and food friendliness in a $16 bottle of wine.
Cristina and her family grow Sangiovese and Montepulciano in the Marches, a spectacularly beautiful spot in Italy right on the Adriatic coast. It’s an area often missed by American tourists, too far from Tuscany, Venice or Rome to ever make it there in the same trip. But, the landscape is beautiful, the fish and produce out of this world. The pizza is not too bad either.
When the Brunori make pizza in their 150 year old wood fired oven, they drink their Rosso Piceno, a bowl of berries with just the right touch of Italian rusticity. You should too. The 2018 just hit my cellar, it’s a terrific Tuesday nighter, get it into your pizza rotation ASAP!

Your go to pizza wine– also great with fresh fish or a meat and cheese board.
The newly released Fiancetto Howell Mt. Cabernet is a dream – a gorgeous, elegant dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that is it picks up time in the glass, unfurls its full signature of cedar laced cassis nose and mid palate of chocolate-covered cherries and savory spices. Only four palates of this (224 cases) were made off a gorgeous, sprawling high elevation spot 1500 feet above sea level. It’s full and plush and finishes fresh and oh so long. The price is crazy for Howell Mountain Cabernet but that’s what Ry Richards and Fiancetto is all about.

“Vignon’s 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers even more than I hoped for based on a previous sample. Hints of garrigue, roses, cherries and raspberries appear on the nose, while the palate is full-bodied, silky and long, with an intense, almost briny finish. The assemblage is 50% Grenache, 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus smaller proportions of seven other permitted varieties, while the élevage includes foudres, demi-muids, concrete and wooden tanks, plus terracotta amphorae.”
It’s always nice to be in good standing with one of the most beloved wine brands in America! These won’t last long! This is an opulent, powerful dark-fruited Cabernet with tightly woven tannins, that is just raring and ready to go. Textbook, full-bodied, revved up and ready to go, this new Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet is the definition of a crowd pleaser.

“The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making…This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born.” -100 points, Vinous
