Pedro Gil a recent winner of the ‘Portuguese Winemaker of the Year’ award, is a total workhouse. I mean it’s insane. This guy oversees 800 hectares and twelve million kilos of grapes harvested every year. Twenty years ago, they ripped out all the high-cropping hybrid vines and replanted with quality varieties that produce lower yields but much higher quality fruit. The results have been incredible.

He crafts this seamless blend from Touriga Nacional, Castelão, Tinta Roriz, Alicante Bouschet, and Syrah at his cooperative in Tejo, one of Portugal’s oldest wine regions just 35 miles from Lisbon. It’s simply incredible you get such a complex and delicious wine at such an affordable price. Only in Portugal!
