I got this back in 2021 and couldn’t keep any inventory in stock. It’s taken me a while to collect enough for a Bourbon Buyers Club offer, but here it goes!
Virginia’s most award winning distillery and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. In 2017, their Small Batch Bourbon was named “World’s Best Bourbon” at the World Whiskies Awards. This is the first year I’ve ever been offered more than six bottles of this Bourbon– that is not an exaggeration.
IMHO the best value in Sazerac’s portfolio is Bowman Brothers. Not familiar with Sazerac? They own/make a few bourbons that you may have heard of: Pappy Vanwinkle, George T. Stagg, Buffalo Trace etc. Bowman Brothers was a little secret for those in the “know”. Well that little secret blew up in 2017 when the distillery won “Worlds Best Bourbon” at the World Whiskey Awards.
Smith Bowman Distillery was purchased by the Sazerac Company, Inc. in 2003. Currently the company doesn’t produce their own whiskey distillate and doesn’t disclose who they source it from. It is believed the new make they use originates from Buffalo Trace and is their #1 mashbill. This baby is distilled three times using the finest corn, rye, and malted barley, giving it a rich, robust flavor profile with lively notes of cinnamon, caramelized sugar, and french vanilla with a wonderfully smooth finish.

Our third single barrel of Whistle Pig and the first time we have our hands on their 6-year PiggyBack bottling. This one leads with a nose of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, butterscotch and toffee. On the palate, I get a lot of citrus & peach with a touch of lavender & black cherry. The finish here is strong & long with spicy dried fruits and caramel notes that linger. This one was distilled in house in Vermont, and as anyone can tell you with the farm releases, they always deliver the best of punches. This one comes in at 109.8 Proof.
I was given fourteen samples to taste through, and found that the 5th sample was the winner. This one is not for the faint of heart. It was a tiny barrel of just 40 six-packs, but the quality here was out of the world. It checks in at 110 Proof (55% alc.) and has harmonious sweet and savory notes that dual throughout this super long and memorable finish. It’s worth selling less bottles to bring you one this good – you guys are going to absolutely love it.
The juice here is so pure and elegant, it tastes much more like a $80/bottle of Tequila than one going for half the price, but that’s why I love these single barrel deals so much. The value is insane. This Reposado spent just under 12 months in used bourbon barrels. Golden brown with fresh agave, oak & vanilla. Remarkably smooth finish. This is one of those oddball tequila’s that is good enough to just sip on the rocks but cheap enough to use to make one hell of a margarita.
Today I snagged a really special single barrel that I have been working on for nearly two years now with Old Forester. It’s a 128.2 proof dynamo that will blow you away, and you’ll love every single sip. The nose is of fresh leather, baking spices & cocoa. On the pallet, this one is a monster & hits you with baked apple. brown sugar, vanilla & cinnamon. The finish goes on for two days long with notes of fig, cherries & clove. It’s big, but she’s a beauty.
