Bibi Graetz Testamatta 2019 (1.5L Magnum)

Categories , ,

This is a rare chance to locking into Bibi Graetz’s 20th Anniversary Testamatta in Big Bottle form. It’s the perfect magnum to get as there’s no doubt this wine has at least 40 years of aging capability. Not only that but it’s a crowd pleaser no matter the crowd and at this point in time it’s far out drinking its reviews.

Decanter had this to say in their 96 point review: “This just shines from the moment it’s poured. Layered and complex this is a gem of a wine filled with cherry, raspberry, damson and caramel notes alongside a savoury edge that makes it so moreish. Tannins that support but don’t overwhelm give a nice overall weight to the palate while the flavous linger on the long finish.”
And always the fan, James Suckling gave it 97 points: “Very attractive combination of dried fruit and spices with black cherries and plums. Aromas of flowers and sandalwood, too. Full-bodied and very refined, yet intense, with plush, velvety tannins that are wonderfully integrated and intertwined with the fruit.”

This is the 20th Anniversary, and in addition to being excellent, I’m sure it will become highly collectable. I’d tuck a few away in a dark corner for at least a few years.

Original price was: $260.00.Current price is: $199.00.

97 Points, James Suckling

Very attractive combination of dried fruit and spices with black cherries and plums. Aromas of flowers and sandalwood, too. Full-bodied and very refined, yet intense, with plush, velvety tannins that are wonderfully integrated and intertwined with the fruit. Ripe center palate. Tight at the end, suggesting the need for some serious bottle age. Very structured.

97 Points, James Suckling

“For Bibi Graetz’s 20th anniversary of his beloved Testamatta, the superstar winemaker set out to make something truly age-worthy and spectacular and unlike anything he has made to date. Armed with his brand new, state-of-the-art winemaking facility in Florence, Graetz’s 2019 Testamatta is elegant and pure with multiple layers of depth and evolution. With part of the makeup consisting of vines from the 1950’s, the wine has such sophistication and intrigue and I suspect will continue to evolve into something special over the next three to four decades.”
