This is a stunning blend of 45% Chardonnay, 45% Sauvignon Blanc, and 10% Picolit from the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC. The Sauvignon Blanc here serves as the natural acidic backbone and brings all the seductive aromas to the forefront. The Chardonnay adds weight, a creamy mid-palate and ageability. And the Picolit, “the nectar of kings” does what this super-rare, expensive grape does best, it provides the wine a hint of sweetness and honey. The combination is perfect. If there’s anyone who knows what wine should taste with like food, Italian food in particular, it’s the Bastianich family!

If you’ve ever dined at Felidia in the past, Becco in the present, or wandered aimlessly through Eataly, you’ve most likely seen this bottle. The Bastianich Vespa Bianco, Lidia’s flagship white used to disappear faster than any wine on the list at Felidia and for good reason.
Parker’s Wine Advocate famously called it “a landmark, symbol of the immense winemaking and oenological potential of the region.”
With Lidia focusing solely on her flagship Becco, this wine first became available to the rest of us last year. This is my first time bringing it in for us.
