The Rizzottos organically farm old vines of Garganega and Trebbiano in the rolling hills of Soave, creating high-toned, delicious white wines. The newly released Balestri Valda Soave 2020 is a crisp Italian white that is truly the perfect companion to most anything seafood, Jersey tomatoes and sweet corn. My bet is that if you are drinking Pinot Grigio you need to give Balestri Valda a try. There are no small lot, old-vine Pinot Grigios that exist for anywhere near this price. 2020 was a vintage that let some Italian white wines truly speak, I think you’re going to like what this bottle has to say!
Out of stock
There is no Pinot Grigio in the world that is farmed organically, sourced from old vines on mineral soil and made in tiny quantities and only costs $14.40 a bottle on cases. I don’t understand the business plan yet, but I’ll take it. Crazy good, crazy cheap, stock up!

Simply stunning. An incredible effort in arguably the greatest Sancerre vintage since 1947, Dominique’s single vineyard ‘Les Deserts’ is considered the Grand Cru vineyard of Bue. It’s a dead ringer for Premier Cru Chablis; it’s that complex. How when it’s Sauvignon Blanc? Well, the vines of Les Deserts are rooted in Kimmeridgian rock, the same soil you find in the best vineyards of Chablis. It’s full-bodied with a chalky minerality and a beautiful, vibrant intensity. This will forever change the way you view Sancerre. It really is that good.
90 Points, Vinous – 90 Points, Wine & Spirits
The Hahn SLH Chardonnay 2019 is gorgeous double 90-point wine that benefits from ocean breezes from Monterey Bay, and a fog that burns off extreme later in the day. This single-vineyard expression allows for the grapes to reach maximize ripeness with great natural acidity and balance, making for an vibrant, high-toned Chardonnay that totally sings with or without food.
94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
Every single year, Adam Tolmach’s Bien Nacido Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are showered with huge scores. It’s like death and taxes. The last time one of his wines failed to receive at least a 90 from The Wine Advocate was back in 2005! In Cali’s “bounce back” 2021 vintage, you know the big score trend continued. The new release has yet to be reviewed by the usual suspects (Wine Advocate, Vinous) but Jeb Dunnuck did get his hands on it and gave it a rave 94-point review where he highlighted the “supple mouthfeel, terrific balance and clean finish.”
The newly released 2021 Domaine Laroche Chablis Saint Martin has some big shoes to fill as the last three vintages have earned 92-points or higher, but the early indications are that this is line with previous vintages if not even a little bit ahead at this stage. The problem is – there’s almost none to go around with much smaller yields. Still this is beautiful and crisp, with good focus, energy and depth. I get the signature green fruits on the nose, with some Asian pear, and a hint of jasmine blossom. There’s a beautiful mineral streak that highlights this one. It’s a fantastic White Burg for the price.
