94+ Points, Antonio Galloni
“Remarkably pretty, the 2021 Montefalco Rosso Riserva opens in the glass with a burst of crushed chalk, giving way to dried violets, lavender, white pepper and crushed blackberries. This is pure elegance, round and pliant yet cool-toned in feel with ripe red and black fruits that slowly give way to a web of fine tannins toward the close. The 2021 finishes structured with a balsamic and dark chocolate resonance, leaving the mouth watering for more. Despite its youthful state, I find it hard not to drink the 2021 instead of just tasting it.”
Arnaldo Caprai Montefalco Rosso Riserva 2021
The Reserve bottling of our #1 Wine of the Year from 2023!
94+ Points, Antonio Galloni – Vinous
Everything you love about the baseline wine is still there, but it was just aged longer, collecting even more roundness, elegance, and dark chocolaty notes that make you want to keep coming back for more. While I haven’t been offering it to you, don’t you worry—I’ve been enjoying plenty at Chez Harary!
Antonio Galloni gave it 94+ points and called it “remarkably pretty,” noting how it “opens with crushed chalk, giving way to dried violets, lavender, white pepper and crushed blackberries. This is pure elegance, round and pliant yet cool-toned… finishes structured with a balsamic and dark chocolate resonance, leaving the mouth watering for more.” The kicker? Galloni admits: “Despite its youthful state, I find it hard not to drink the 2021 instead of just tasting it.” Trust me, Antonio. I know what you mean!

MORE INFO
Back in 1971, textiles entrepreneur Arnaldo Caprai decided to spring on a winery that he thought could be special and purchased 12.5 acres in Montefalco. In 1988, Arnaldo passed the business down to his son Marco, who began the project to cultivate the promotion of the grape that has been growing in the Montefalco region for more than 400 years: Sagrantino.
Today, the winery has become the leading producer of top-quality Sagrantino di Montefalco, a wine produced exclusively from this native variety. In addition to its commitment to quality, Arnaldo Caprai is recognized for its dedication to environmental, economic and social sustainability, as well as being champions for the wines of Umbria.
This is their flagship bottling, and honestly it is such a gorgeous, gorgeous wine – one of the most under-appreciated wines in Italy. If you think you liked the Rosso, just imagine what the Rosso Riserva is going to do to your palate!
