“Firm lines of graphite and loamy earth streak through the opulent aromas of black plum and dried violet on the nose of this brooding Pinot Noir. The palate is a whirlwind of exuberance, as leathery tannins wrap around more graphite minerality, dried violet and lavender, stewed plum and a touch of bittersweet cocoa on the finish.”
We’re excited to be the first in line for Matt Cline’s new project. Budwood Ancient Vine Own Rooted Red is a blend of Carignan, Mataro and Alicante Bouschet. The color is a deep purple all the way to its rim. The nose is tell-tale Contra Costa, with dusty berry aromas mingled with eucalyptus and mint. Made without oak, the fruit is unadulterated, pure, dark and concentrated, the kind that only ancient vines can produce. The finish is fine, long with a firm acid backbone. This wine was made for outdoor dining, a burger has never met a better match!
The brand new Clos Julien Chard is a great example of California coastal Chardonnay, zippy-fresh and long on the palate. This one comes bristling with energy right out of the gates. It’s a flawlessly crafted single-vineyard Chardonnay– as bright and refreshing as you could want, it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with great minerality and a lingering, bright finish. It’s a fantastic wine for summer, pairs great with those summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish.

“This year’s exceptional Pinot Noir quartet is completed by this striking wine from the Santa Lucia Highlands — a long and scenically beautiful fillet of land lying on the landward side of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range next to the chill waters of Monterey Bay, and alternately fog-chilled and breeze-freshened during summer. The Pinot is dark and sweet-scented, with discreet spice and refined black cherry; there’s a peony allure to give it lift, too. It’s vivid and mouth-filling yet structured, poised and fresh, too: a Pinot that proves that the natural wealth which derives from California’s light and soils can work superbly in delivering Pinot of both nuance and sensual charm.” – Decanter
The secret to the Stolpman wine’s freshness and balance is the fact that they do not irrigate. Sure, it stresses the vines but it forces the roots to go really deep, tapping into the groundwater that is seriously affected by the limestone. The grapes are tiny, packed with flavor and brimming with the stony minerality that only the limestone can bring.
The 2020 Stolpman Para Maria de los Tecolotes Rosé (affectionately named after Ruben’s wife and partner, Maria) is an interesting blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, 20% Syrah. It’s salmon-pink in color, with a great nose of ruby red grapefruit, lychee and ginger. It’s crisp and bone-dry — a classic provence style Rosé but this one is probably a little juicier than ever before. Chalk that up to the higher percentage of Grenache this year. This is a top American Rose.

This is another world-class Chardonnay from Talbott — produced from the celebrated Sleepy Hollow Vineyard that has been recognized as one of California’s Grand Cru vineyards by Wine Enthusiast. This is going to win over al the fans of that buttery, classic American style of Chardonnay with a creamy lemon pudding middle and a smooth long finish. At the price we have this beauty, I don’t expect this one to be in stock very long.
Fresh off its feature as one of Wine Spectator’s ‘Exciting California Values Under $25’, winemaker Matt Cline looks to stay hot with his brand new release of the 2019 Contra Costa Zinfandel. This one is a beauty crafted off old-vines that are now between 110-140 years in age. There’s a ton of darker fruits that drive this one with a dusting of baking spice. The fruit is pure, fresh and long making it both delicious on its own or terrific with a burger, BBQ ribs, or grilled leg of lamb. Crazy cheap for what is in the bottle, load up!
