Tequila Ocho Añejo Tequila Les Raices 2024

Category

Tequila Ocho Single Estate Las Raíces Añejo is one of those rare tequilas where terroir actually matters. This comes from a single field in Jalisco where they grow, harvest, and distill their own Blue Weber agave—no shortcuts, no blending from different sources. Eight years in oak and it shows. You get rich amber color with copper highlights, and the nose is serious: baked agave, vanilla, caramel, toasted oak, with citrus zest and dried fruit underneath. On the palate it’s elegant but substantial—warm caramel, honeyed agave, roasted nuts, and baking spices that all work together without the oak steamrolling the 100% blue-weber agave. The finish is long and smooth, vanilla and citrus brightness with that earthy agave character still shining through. This is what single-estate tequila is supposed to taste like. The Añejo expression is aged for at least one year, cultivating unparalleled smoothness and complexity that is ideally suited for slow sipping. Unlike some of these mass-produced spirits aiming for uniformity, each vintage of OCHO showcases nuanced differences in the nose and flavor, making every limited-edition bottling a truly unique and highly collectible Tequila.

You can’t even talk about Tequila right now without mentioning ‘Ocho’ in Jalisco. They’re a scorching hot premium tequila brand created by Carlos Camarena (of El Tesoro and Tapatio fame) in collaboration with the late Tomas Estes.

They’re widely known as the first ever “single estate”  – each batch comes from a specific field (rancho) in a specific year, emphasizing terroir similar to wine. The brand pioneered the concept of vintage-dated tequila and typically produces high-proof expressions that showcase the distinctive characteristics of different agave growing locations.

In a world where three new tequilas seem to crop up every minute — some of which are pumped full of additives — Tequila Ocho remains committed to producing each batch of its liquid using traditional, age-old methods.
