Delicate mousse dances on the palate, carrying citrus, stone fruit, and brioche, all wrapped in captivating minerality that speaks distinctly to the Willamette Valley terroir. I firmly believe that Oregon is home to the best sparkling winery in the United States. While established names like Iron Horse, Domaine Carneros, Roederer, and Schramsberg all deserve recognition, Argyle stands out for its overall consistency, excellence, and ability to rival grower Champagnes.

Argyle’s story is intricately woven into the very fabric of American sparkling wine. Founded in the late 1980’s by visionaries Rollin Soles and Alvin “Skip” Carmichael, Argyle wasn’t just entering a nascent market; they were blazing a trail. Recognizing the potential of Oregon’s cool climate and unique geology, they meticulously studied Champagne production methods and adapted them to the Willamette Valley terroir. The result? Sparkling wines that defied expectations and established Oregon as a serious contender in the world of bubbles.

Argyle’s dedication to quality goes far beyond mimicking Champagne. Their winning formula starts in the vineyard, where canopy management and hand-harvesting ensure the grapes reach peak ripeness. In the cellar, the traditional Méthode Champenoise reigns supreme, with extended aging on the lees adding to the complexity and finesse of the final product.
