96 Points, James Suckling – 93 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 93 Points, The Wine Independent

“An uncompromising Champagne for a non-vintage wine with a lot of smoky character woven between the orange fruit. Concentrated and structured but beautifully balanced the mineral acidity and fine mousse counterbalancing the richness. Breathtakingly long complete finish in spite of being bone dry. A cuvee of 69% Pinot Noir and 31% Chardonnay from Verzenay and Verzy based on the 2018 vintage with reserve wines from 2016, 2015, and 2014. 20% of the base wine was vinified in oak casks, it went into the bottle for second fermentation on April 26th 2019 and was disgorged in November of 2022. Drink or hold.”

Dirgorged with 0.8 grams per liter dosage on November 4th, 2022, J.M.’s Prologue is based on the 2018 vintage, complemented by 27% reserve wines from three vintages (2013. 2014, 2015) and 7% vinified in oak. Exhibiting complex aromas of lemon, almonds, spring flowers, jasmine, red berries and pear with hints of spices and blood orange. It’s medium-bodied, seamless and complete, crstalline and pure, with a refined mousse. This blend of 69% Pinot Noir and 31% Chardonnay is disalarmingly easy to drink.

Light burnished gold with fine bubbles, the Prologue NV Grand Cru is 69% Pinot Noir and 31% Chardonany from a 2018 vase vintage, with 27% reserve wines from 2014-2016. Fragrant and intriguing with ripe apple, lemon oil, warm clover, honey and hints of toffee, the medium-bodied palate has a vinous texture woven with an undercurrent of red fruit, cool mineral energy and vivacious, radiating acidty. Quite taut and precise, it finishes long and dry with an attractive savory note. Disgorged January 2023 with a finished with a nearly zero, 0.8 gram per liter dosage.

J.M. Labruyère is a super highly respected Champagne house with deep roots in Burgundy’s famous Labruyère family (owners of Domaine Jacques Prieur and Château Rouget in Pomerol). Their approach to Champagne is distinctive because they are a Grower-Producer that operates exclusively in the Grand Cru village of Verzenay on the northern slope of the Montagne de Reims.

Their philosophy centers on expressing the power and purity of this Grand Cru Pinot Noir terroir. Their Extra Brut style is a crucial aspect of their unique identity. This latest disgorgement is made from 69% Pinot Noir and 31% Chardonnay. For their signature Extra Brut, they use a very low dosage (sugar added after disgorgement), which emphasizes the natural acidity, minerality, and precision of the Verzenay fruit.
