The bourbon shortage has hit every distillery without exception. Jefferson’s has been hit harder than most because their reserve can age up to 20 years. Turns out that 20 years ago, nobody was expecting this bourbon boom.
Most of what you see in the market place from Jefferson’s these days is the Voyages or the Pritchard Hill. They are good enough I guess but I don’t really have interest in selecting one of those as a private barrel. I thought for sure last years would be our last Jefferson’s for a long time.
This year when Trey Zoeller asked me if I wanted a barrel, I really had to dance around saying that I really didn’t want the Voyages. He was quick to tell me that they don’t do the Reserve anymore for private barrels. We talked a while and I told him that the most requested bourbon from my bourbon buyers club was his. It’s mostly true as it sells out the fastest but you can’t blame me for buttering him up a bit can you? Before our conversation was over he said he was sending me a bunch of barrel samples & would include a few Reserve samples. They would all be unmarked & I can pick whatever I wanted. Ha! This wasn’t even close. I picked the 3 Reserves out of the bunch in a heartbeat. Actually all 3 were very good but barrel #68 was head and shoulders above the rest.
I can’t promise that there will ever be a Jefferson’s Reserve #4 because Trey told me this is the last private reserve barrel that they are ever releasing.

92 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This is a huge favorite of folks in the Red Bank area. It’s a bold, unapologetic Chardonnay with juicy notes of peach, lemon sorbet, baking spice and vanilla with a rich, creamy middle and plenty of natural acidity to balance it out. The lemon vanilla finish is perhaps the wine’s calling card or the sheer drinkability of it all. Either way, it’s a Chard that people adore. It’s no wonder Wine Enthusiast called this, “a big win for fans of this bold style”.

“Truly great stuff, this wine performed at a three-digit level both in the horizontal tasting of 2005s in Baltimore, as well as in Montreal at this mini-vertical. This sensational, opaque, bluish/purple wine offers up notes of vanillin, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, plus a touch of licorice. The wine hits the palate with a thunderous cascade of ripe, rich, concentrated fruit. It is full-bodied, multidimensional and layered. The tannins are beautifully integrated but still present, and the wood, acidity, alcohol, etc., are all beautifully assimilated in this magnificent, majestic vintage of Angelus.” -Robert Parker, Jr.
This is definitely one of the most unique private barrels of bourbon you’re gonna find anywhere and it comes from our friends at in Kirby at Wyoming Whiskey. It’s been two years since we’ve had this baby! They make their own whiskey in-house instead of getting it shipped to them and finishing it. In doing so, they use winter wheat to churn out a medium length whiskey with notes of honey, burnt sugar, cinnamon and caramel on the finish. It’s sensational – but I only have 120 bottles from this barrel to offer up.
This is my third private barrel of Bourbon that I sourced from Bulleit and my first since 2022. Believe you me, they give you a ton (and I mean a ton) of samples to go through to make up for lost time. The winning combo is something people are going to love. Allow me to introduce you to Barrel #5-B3-82. It’s smooth and layered, with a full creamy mouthfeel and manages to sneak in at 104 Proof. On the nose, I get fresh cut oak, vanilla and brown butter. On the palate, freshly baked banana bread, burnt orange and graham cracker.
