With their seventh installment, Magellan’s Atlantic keeps all five promises and then some. The way they finished this Whiskey is so unique and the end result so dang good, I could see this changing the way others uses casks down the road. First aged for 17 years in American oak, this is the first whiskey I’ve ever heard of being finished in two separate casks. First, a rare Northern Spanish cask that adds a unique spice component, then its rounded out in a South American teakwood, that tames the spiciness with a sweet component.
- You cannot add "Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve 2016 (1.5L Magnum)" to the cart because the product is out of stock.
Whistle Pig The Boss Hog VII: Magellan’s Atlantic
A major thing that separates Whistle Pig from the others, is their Boss Hog bottlings. Not a given as an annual occurrence, Dave always said that the only way he would do a ‘Boss Hog’ bottling at Whistle Pig was if his “five promises” were kept. Those promises were as follows:
- Single Barrel
- Bottled at Barrel Proof
- Powerfully Complex
- Distinctly Unique from Anything They had Previously Done
- Extraordinary Quality. Better than Anything Else They Made.

That combination of innovation and superiority quality is unmatched– exactly the kind of quality you’ve come to expect from from Whistle Pig’s Boss Hog. Somewhere my man Dave is smiling down enjoying this one.
Recently released at $500 but as always, quickly slated to reach upwards of four figures, I locked into my 18 bottle allotment and then “lost” one bottle as I always do. That leaves just 17 bottles up for grabs.
