Vivanco Crianza Rioja Seleccion de Familia 2016

Categories ,

Under the direction of enologist Pedro Vivanco, his family-owned winery has become one of Rioja’s most important estates, a sprawling 440-hectare property set on the breezy rolling hills around Briones. After all, it was Vivanco that helped announce Spain as an important player on the world stage when they first wowed Wine Spectator in 2011, earning a coveted slot on the magazine’s Top 100 list.

Since then, they’ve been on a tear – earning high praise and big scores from all the wine critics and for the last two years, being recognized as one of the Top 100 greatest vineyards in the whole world.

In 2016, the family outdid themselves with their best Reserve bottling since the legendary 2010 vintage. All in all, 2016 was unanimously loved by wine critics. Parker’s Wine Advocate gave it a 95-point rating and declared it “outstanding”. It was certainly a year that was defined by its wines of impeccable balance and freshness – and one where those who picked their Tempranillo latest, like Bodega Vivanco, reaped the greatest rewards.

Original price was: $30.00.Current price is: $15.50.

91 Points, Decanter – 90 Points, James Suckling

This is a very special bottling from Northern Spain. It’s deep, bold and dark-fruited with inviting aromas of raspberry, black cherry, chocolate, and toasted vanilla bean. Rich, plush, and silken on the attack, with black-fruit preserves it’s a little weighty and dense, and finishes soft and lush with just enough dusty-tannin backbone to keep the tremendous opulence in check.
