Tolaini Valdisanti Toscana 2021

95 Pts, James Suckling – 94 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate – 94 Pts, Wine Spectator

Pierluigi Tolaini spent 45 years in Canada dreaming of returning to Tuscany to make world-class wine. When he finally came back in 1998, he didn’t mess around – he bought prime Chianti Classico land, the world’s top consultant, Michel Rolland, and built a state-of-the-art winery from scratch.

The Valdisanti is a 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend that embodies everything great about this category. James Suckling called it “soft and velvety with dense tannins, savory character, full body” in his 95-point review, Wine Spectator dubbed it “focused like a laser” with “black currant, black cherry, cedar, licorice and graphite.”

Original price was: $38.00.Current price is: $30.95.

95 Points, James Suckling
Clove, vanilla, restrained cherry, milk chocolate and balsamic aromas. The attack is soft and velvety, with dense tannins, a savory character, a full body and crisp, refreshing acidity. Great mid-palate extraction and details. Embracing finish, long and consistent. Drinkable now, but best from 2031.

94 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
Made with equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the Tolaini 2021 Valdisanti is a lush expression with a big, upfront delivery of bold black fruit. On the palate, that intensity tapers off somewhat to reveal a silky and elegant mid to full-bodied approach. It shows great length and a softer texture than you might expect given the first impact of the bouquet.

94 Points, Wine Spectator
Focused like a laser, this racy red features black currant, black cherry, cedar, licorice and graphite aromas and flavors. A balanced version, with a light dusting of tannins shoring up the finish. Excellent length. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2038.

Tolaini’s approach combines old-world terroir with new-world precision. High-density planting up to 11,500 vines per hectare, individual drip irrigation, two green harvests, and optical sorting ensure only perfect fruit makes it to fermentation. The estate’s location in Castelnuovo Berardenga, Chianti Classico’s southernmost commune, provides the mineral backbone that elevates this blend beyond typical Super Tuscan territory.
