96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
One of the finest vintages to date for this estate, possibly eclipsing the 2016, the 2022 Château Fleur Cardinale offers a medium to full-bodied, seamless, incredibly elegant and balanced profile that brings beautiful richness in its ripe black raspberry and cassis fruits as well as some spicy, floral, and herbal nuances. Balanced and nicely concentrated, with ripe tannins, it does everything right in the vintage.
95-96 Points, James Suckling
Plenty of ripe berry and currant character with some freshly cut black cherries. Hints of chocolate. Medium body with firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Yet all in reserve. Crunchy.
Château Fleur Cardinale is a highly regarded estate on the Right Bank in Saint-Émilion, with a reputation that seems to be improving each vintage. This change all started after the acquisition by Dominique and Florence Decoster in 2001. From there, this winery has only seen goodness.
First in 2006, they were promoted to Grand Cru Classé status in 2006, a rare feat in itself. But it seems like since the property got taken over by Dominique and Florence’s two children, Ludovic and Caroline Decoster, that the meteoric rise really took place.
The château’s vineyards, cover about 23.5 hectares, and are strategically located on a clay-limestone plateau with diverse exposures, contributing to the complexity of their wines. The winemaking is done with by meticulous parcel-by-parcel vinification in small, temperature-controlled vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels (often 100% new for the grand vin). This is a tedious and time consuming approach, but it yields incredible results that have been undeniable.
