Three Faux Pas Contra Costa County 2025

This is Matt Cline’s ‘Faux Pas’ a wine that really needs a category of its own. It’s a super fun, super tasty ‘chillable’ Red that might remind you of a Rose, but it’s not quite that either. It’s a racy mix of 47% Carignane, 39% Zinfandel and 14% Petite Sirah that is made as a blending of rose and red wine in stainless tanks. It’s translucent with a bright ruby color, with lifted aromatics of bright red fruit, strawberries and crushed flowers. It’s clean, fresh and bright with a lot of beautiful natural acidity. The perfect accompaniment for burgers off the grill.

Matt Cline works his magic at Three Wine Company in Contra Costa County where the name ‘Cline’ carries some serious weight. But Matt doesn’t play on his name and his legacy, he’s out there making a name for himself the hard way with his small plot of land.

There are magical vines of up to 150 years old here, Zinfandel, carignane, alicante bouchet, and probably a bunch of vines that we forgot the name for… anyway, Matt has always been a big champion for these dry-farmed, organically tended parcels and that old vine pedigree and power comes through in everything he makes.
