Thomas Fogarty Pinot Noir James Thomas’s Block Rapley Trail 2021

“Readers should do whatever they can to taste these wines.” -Antonio Galloni

96 Points (Cellar Selection), Wine Enthusiast – 96 Points, Vinous

This is high-altitude Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir at its absolute finest—single-vineyard, single-block fruit from the near-perfect 2021 vintage with double 96 points from Vinous and Wine Enthusiast (Cellar Selection). Only 75 cases were made, and Wine Enthusiast’s Cellar Selection designation tells you everything you need to know about its aging potential. The James Thomas Block sits at elevation where cool Pacific influence meets intense sun exposure, producing Pinot Noir with extraordinary concentration and precision. This wine retails for $125/bottle, but I’ve secured it at a once-in-a-lifetime price that will make these bottles pretty quickly once this ‘text-exclusive’ goes out. When microscopic production meets double 96-point scores and a price that shouldn’t exist, you know what to do!

Original price was: $125.00.Current price is: $50.00.

96 Points, Vinous
The 2021 Pinot Noir Rapley Trail Vineyard James Thomas’s Block is a somber, brooding wine. Dark plum, blueberry, cloves, leather, licorice and graphite lend tons of complexity. Bright acids and searing tannins need time to incorporate into the wine’s fabric. The intensely saline finish is impossible to miss. Readers should be in no rush here. Production is a measley 75 cases.

96 Points, Wine Enthusiast
This special block-designated bottling only amounts to 75 cases, and they’re worth hanging onto for some time. Aromas of boysenberry, loam and comforting baking spices like clove and nutmeg show on the nose. The texture is rich and dense on the palate, where baked cherry, black pepper and mountain herb flavors will grow even more harmonious with time. Drink now–2039.

“These are, without question, the most impressive wines I have tasted from Fogarty. Longtime winemaker Nathan Kandler and proprietor Tommy Fogarty hit it out of the park. The Chardonnays are deep, tense and loaded with energy. Pretty much the same is true of the Pinot Noirs, which offer unreal depth, complexity and dynamic energy to match. Winemaking is minimalist. Spontaneous fermentations, modest use of new oak and some stem influence in the Pinots are the norm. Aging in wood is around 16 months, on the long side for California and ideal for these wines. Readers should do whatever they can to taste these wines.” -Antonio Galloni, Vinous

What can you even say about this? We have a once in a lifetime opportunity with the legendary Thomas Fogarty trying to lighten his cellar as he patches the torch to the next generation. This an exclusive offer with exclusive pricing you won’t find anywhere else. I just wish I had more bottles to go around. This is easily one of the best offers I’ve had in a long time.
