92 Points, Wine Enthusiast

The 2020 vintage was particularly kind to Montalcino, with wonderful concentration forming naturally through warm days while freshness was maintained with cool nights. Wine Enthusiast awarded this beauty 92 points, but more important than the points, they called it “a serious Rosso that shows good mid-term aging potential” – a strong indication of how far the category has gone as a whole, as well as where Talenti stands in relation to their peers.

Of Wine Enthusiast’s top five scoring Rossos from the 2020 vintage, Talenti’s stands out for delivering the most exceptional price-to-quality ratio by far. You’re essentially getting a wine that drinks like a young Brunello at a fraction of the price.

Original price was: $33.00.Current price is: $25.00.

Violet, camphor, dark-skinned fruit and French oak aromas form the nose. The full-bodied palate is more expressive, offering dried cherry, baking spice and licorice set against firm, fine-grained tannins. This is a serious Rosso that shows good mid-term aging potential. Drink 2023–2028.

Talenti’s incredible Tuscan legacy begins with Pierluigi “Piero” Talenti, described by Robert Parker as one of “the most famous figures in the world of Montalcino oenology.” After establishing his reputation at prestigious Il Poggio, Piero found his dream: 98 acres of pristine land just south of Montalcino in the Orcia river valley. He bought it in the early 1970s and planted the vineyard that still provides fruit for this outstanding Rosso.

Today, his grandson Riccardo continues the family tradition, elevating Talenti to what Vinous calls one of Tuscany’s “true standouts.” Their rise to prominence has been built on exceptional Brunellos, but savvy collectors know their Rosso represents one of Tuscany’s greatest values.
