Often described in the Spirits world as the ultimate whiskey for Rye fanatics, this beauty from the ‘Hoosier State’ checks in at 49.5% alcohol. The winner of a gold medal and the “liquid gold” award from famed Spirits critic, Jim Murray, it’s a straight Rye Whiskey made with a mashbill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malt with sweet and spicy notes of vanilla, pepper, orange and toasted oak.

In terms of rare and unique bottles go, this Japanese Whisky is up there with anything in the spirits world. It’s a blended whisky finished in Sakura (cherry blossom) casks and Hibiki® 30 Year Old, a rare annual release that retails for $5000/btl. Hibiki is a gorgeous blend of ten various malt and grain whiskies from Suntory’s Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries. It’s super aptly named as all of these flavors and smells mesh together beautifully, with no shortage of flavors and aroma.

Rich and creamy notes of toasted oak, vanilla, caramel, and fresh baked sourdough immediately flood the senses as soon as you pop this one open. Bottled at 100-Proof, you get a little bit of heat on the front palate followed by rich oak, burnt sugar and freshly baked bread. As it starts to open, you get some sweeter, creamy vanilla notes that creep in as well as campfire s’mores and a dash of pepper. The finish is long, and very memorable and leaves you wanting more.
The 30 Year Old from The Dalmore should be a staple in every scotch drinker’s collection. It’s carefully nurtured over time through a combination of Graham’s Colheita Port casks which previously held the rare Graham’s 1982 single harvest port. This gives this one a hint of sweetness, and tons of pure, balanced whisky in perfect harmony. It’s rich, but not over the top and there’s equal fruit and spice notes that play together so nicely.
