If you’re looking for arguably the best expression of Rufina each year, you can’t do any better than Selvapiana. Located right in the heart of Chianti Rufina in Tuscany, the producer has long been considered one of the very best.
Wine Spectator declared a few years back, “Selvapiana would give stiff competition to first-class red wines from just about anywhere else in the world. It also shows that Chianti Classico does not have a monopoly on the quality of Chianti as a whole.”
Selvapiana’s Chianti Rufina has been rated 92 points or higher in five consecutive vintages by numerous wine-experts, but their 2020 is right up there amongst their finest bottlings to date. Every time I go back and taste this, I find something new about it that I like. I’ve tasted it with a dozen dishes and it never failed due to it’s high-drive, red-fruited silkiness, perfectly balanced with great acid and a finish that goes and goes.
93 Points, James Suckling
So much crushed-stone character here with citrus and black-cherry aromas. Medium-bodied with iodine and oyster-shell undertones to the blue fruit. Lemon rind at the end. Drink or hold.
