Schiopetto Pinot Grigio Collio 2024

James Suckling’s #1 Value of the Year (Top 100 Values of 2025)

96 Points, James Suckling

This is arguably the best Pinot Grigios I’ve ever tasted and easily the highest-rated version I’ve ever seen. The quality is that evident from the first sniff to the last sip. No wonder this one is such a NYC restaurant favorite as well as James Suckling’s #1 Value out of thousands in 2025. It just drips with elegance and purity that you rarely find in Pinot Grigio with a distinctive character that emerges when this noble grape variety meets the unique terroir of Collio. If you’re familiar with their ‘Firetruck’ entry-level bottling, picture that delicious wine but on steroids. It’s one for the ages and a can’t-miss for as long as my bottles last!

96 Points, James Suckling
A benchmark Pinot Grigio with striking purity and poise, offering notes of peach stone, raw almonds, and citrus blossom, alongside a flinty character and a hint of lime pith, all supported by superb freshness and minerality. The elegant, medium- to full-bodied palate is both silky and weightless, yet displays remarkable length and laser-like focus. Among the finest of its kind, if not the best. Drink or hold.

Schiopetto is a super-highly regarded winery located in the Collio region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, tucked away in northeastern Italy. They are particularly celebrated for their high-quality, elegant white wines, which have played a big time role in establishing the entire region’s reputation for excellence.

The winery was founded by Mario Schiopetto in the 1960s. He’s considered a pioneer in modern Friulian winemaking, introducing innovative techniques while respecting tradition. While many winemakers were chasing French varietals to plant in their vineyards, Mario championed Friulian grape varietals, arguing that they were better suited for the soil.

Although they do make an otherworldly Sauvignon their Pinot Grigios, especially the ‘Collio’ bottling are their real calling card. Nothing highlights that quite like their 2024 bottling which James Suckling made his #1 value anywhere in the world in 2025, outpacing thousands and thousands of other excellent wines.
