Nicholas spent the day with Eddie & Jimmy Russell at Wild Turkey tasting through literally 100 barrels of Russell’s Reserve to choose this very special Nicholas Single Barrel. On the palate, baking spice, dark honey and caramel with a healthy taste of wood. Long lingering finish. 110 proof-cask strength.

This domaine was my favorite of the white burgundy domaines at Jean Georges. Referts might as well be a Grand Cru in my book. Its old vines, rooted in a sheer slab of limestone, produce epic wines of finesse, length and power that will wow at any table next Saturday night and every other for at least the next decade.

Robert Foley’s Shelter Cabernet Sauvignon gets released after years of both barrel and bottle aging once they’re finally deemed ‘ready’ by the master himself. Not starving for money or fame, Foley holds the wine back out, aging graceful, smooth blends of Napa Cabernet from some of the same vineyard sites he uses to make his signature wines.

It’s not often that we’re offered perfectly cellared and stored 12-year-old Parker stunners. Drawn entirely from a single vineyard, the Puntido continued to just get better in the bottle. Knowing exactly what they had in hand, the winery just waited. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave it a 96 point score – the highest of the entire vintage.
