Robert Ferraris’ base Barbera is off the charts in 2018. Old vines always give just an incredible aromatic array of violets, eucalyptus and baking spices. Those old vines also pack a concentrated core of black fruit that goes forever in limestone-affected finish. First, this is a home run of a pizza wine. But it is food-friendly enough to work with much more, anything braised or off the grill.
