Located halfway up the hill dominating the principal valley of Barolo, buttressed by steep slopes lined by orderly vineyards, lies a precious jewel from the 15th century: the Abbey of Annunziata.
Today it is home to Renato Ratti winery and 100 acres of vineyards. These wines are treasures that are starting to grow into an international behind their innovative, pioneering owner Renato. At a time when only blends were being made for Barolo through the 1960’s Renato decided he wanted a wine that reflected only one terroir. His ‘Marcenasco’ bottling because the first single-vineyard release in 1965, further cementing his legacy amongst the greats.
Today with the winery now in the hands of his son Pietro and his nephew Massimo. Needless to say, Pietro and company are totally on fire! The James Suckling Top 100 designation only tells part of the story, these are must-have bottlings for serious Piedmont collectors.
