As a fifth generation Californian winemaker, Joe Wagner has it pretty good. His family has built an empire in American wine. Caymus, the flagship brand is nothing short of a Napa Valley cult. And that’s just one brand out of dozens that the Wagner family has built from the ground up into something huge. With their feet firmly entrenched in the soil and the fabric of California winemaking, perhaps there’s no more fitting brand name for the Wagner family, than one of their more recent projects, Quilt.
With their access to an abundance of the best vineyards in the most choice AVAs in the valley, the Wagner’s set out to make Quilt– a Cabernet blend from a patchwork of the top sites in Napa (Oakville, St. Helena, Coombsville, Atlas Peak, Calistoga and Howell Mountain). The 2017 is a massive, show stopping Cabernet, a seamless blend that earned a rave 92-point review from the Wine Spectator in their most recent report. This wine is incredibly smooth wine and has the luxury of being bold, seductive and rich. If you love big Napa Cabs, this one is for you.

92 Points, Wine Spectator
Frankly ripe, with a vivid beam of creamed plum, açaí and boysenberry fruit flavors, glistening with vanilla-accented toast through a polished finish. Aimed squarely at the hedonist crowd. Drink now through 2022.
Enjoy this Cabernet with my ultimate burger al fresco with family and friends in the spring!

Chapoutier’s new 2021 release is absolutely delicious and it should have mass appeal. The wine has so much vibrancy and depth, it’s an old-vine blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan from the village of Latour de France. Beautiful deep purple in color with increasing aromas of cocoa, creme de cassis, dark plum, and black cherries. Richly textured and voluptuous on the attack, packed with black-fruit preserves, braced by a refreshing acidity and long smooth tannins that paint a silky portrait. It’s a rock solid wine from an absolute icon.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.

“The 2020 Franc-Mayne is an exotic, heady wine. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, licorice and espresso lend an air of dark, sepia-toned beauty throughout. Plush, silky and generous, the 2020 is wonderfully deep and layered. Those qualities continue to emerge effortlessly over time. This ample Saint-Émilion has so much to offer.”
97 Points (Best in Show), 2020 Decanter Wine Awards
This was the Cab that started it all. A gorgeous bottle that was the first of now 3 straight 97-point award winners from Decanter’s biggest international wine awards show. There are bronze medals, silver, gold and then platinum. Lastly, the true creme de la creme are awarded Best in Show, and that is where you’ll find the 2017 Trefethen Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet from the beloved Oak Knoll district. The wine is an absolute show stopper– dark and brooding with aromas of violets, black fruits and figs with notes of black cherry, raspberry, plum and chocolate mousse on the palate. Best price in the country for these Big Bottles.

I got this in my Seasonal case and my wife and I thoughroly enjoyed it. It has a boquet, decent body and full of flovor on the palate. Good with steak and lamb; a good choice for Easter dinner.
