98 Points, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate
Sir Peter’s Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille is on a very short list of the best white wines in America. Naturally, it’s also one of the hardest to get. I managed to get exactly one six-pack of this home-run Chardonnay and sometimes I can’t even get that.
The single vineyard, Ma Belle-Fille comes from a steep parcel on the Peter Michael estate precariously positioned above the fog line approximately 1700 feet above sea level. The mountain slope exceeds 40% grade in some spots.
It’s the ultimate cool climate Chard. The vines work hard here and yield very little wine but what is coaxed from these tiny grapes is some of most compelling Chardonnays in the world year in and year out.
The 2021 vintage is once again, amongst the highest rated wines in the world. 98 Points from Parker’s Wine Advocate, 97 more from their former Editor in Chief, Lisa Perrotti-Brown. 96 from Jeb Dunnuck and matching 95s from both Vinous and Wine Spectator. All of it meaningless but to say, everyone can agree this is an exceptionally well made bottle of Chardonnay that is a cut above most everybody’s flagship white wine.

The 2021 Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille as a finished tank sample the day before it was bottled. Matured for 12 months in about 40% new French oak, it is youthfully gregarious at this stage, boasting scents of white peach, nutmeg, panna cotta and hints of lime candy and floral perfume. The medium-bodied palate is silky and seamless, with its focused acidity energizing the concentrated, spicy fruit, and it finishes with tremendous length, flavor and juiciness that begs you to take another sip.

Pouring a youthful yellow hue with silver highlights, the 2021 Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille is ripe with fresh apricot, orange blossoms, and delicate baking spices. Full-bodied, with a fresh, clean texture, a rounded feel, and no harsh edges, the palate reveals fresh notes of cantaloupe, pithy citrus, vanilla, and flowers.
96 pts – Wine Spectator
This one strikes remarkable balance between bright, fresh acidity and rich notes of lemon curd, mango puree, poached pear, dried pineapple and honeycomb on a sleek frame. Reveals hints of dried lemon grass and pineapple sage on the fresh, aromatic finish.
Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille 2017 will be delicious this Saturday night and every other for the next 10-15 years.

Grilled Fish and seasonal root vegetables are the perfect match.
Top notch Chenin grown on a biodynamically farmed parcel of gravel over limestone and flint. Vinified dry in steel with no wood aging. From the glass, complex Aromas of Anjou pear, citron, white flowers and cream soar with just a touch of jasmine and honey. On the palate, the wine is rich yet still bone dry with a vibrant core of peach and pear fruits and a fresh crackling of saline and minerality. The zipped up acidity makes this wine both fantastic at the table and a great candidate for aging.
A large glass is necessary to capture the brilliant aromatics of Talmard’s Macon Uchizy. Aromas of ripe Meyer lemon, peach, honey and mint just blast from the glass upon pouring. The wine takes on weight with aeration, developing flavors of crisp green apple, juicy peach and lemon custard. The finish is long and fresh, so good with food. Roast some salmon, make sweet corn risotto, use it as an aperitif, it’s a great choice for a house white to be enjoyed all year round.
Just 20 cases of this crazy small, rare and elite import managed to find their wine to America, and I scooped up five of them for Nicholas wines. This is a fabulous Cru Sancerre that showcases one of the finest vineyards in Sancerre from the lights-out 2019 vintage in the Loire Valley. It comes from Cul de Beaujeu, one of Chavignol’s most famous vineyards, with an incline of up to 60 degrees! It’s old-vine Sancerre grown on Kimmeridgian clay and limestone with all the vineyard work and harvesting done by hand. It truly represents the creme de la creme.
The Zenato family has built up quite the reputation for delivering exceptional value with their red and whites in Veneto. Their Pinot Grigio is a particularly great value, punching way above its weight class. Delicately scented and soft on the palate, it offers classic citrus and floral notes in a balanced elegant style. It’s smooth and refreshing with a long, pleasant finish. Great with food.
