This remarkable discovery comes from Lionel Gosseaume, a third-generation winemaker whose family has been quietly perfecting their craft in the small village of Choussy since 1932. Situated just outside the Touraine appellation on the sandy-clay soils that make this region famous, the Gosseaume estate focuses almost exclusively on Sauvignon Blanc – and the expertise shows.
The Gosseaumes aren’t interested in marketing or expanding production – they’re focused solely on crafting honest, pure Sauvignon Blanc that expresses their unique terroir. Less than 350 cases make it to the United States each year, making this truly a small-production gem that flies under the radar of most wine shops.
They’d be missing out big time too. While Lionel will tell you it’s his terroir that deserves all the credit, it’s the extra mile that Lionel has gone at his grandfather’s winery that has made all the difference. By introducing sustainable farming in the vineyard and temperature-controlled everything in the winery, the differences here are night and day.
