Paul Dolan Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino 2023

91 Points, Wine Enthusiast

I just tasted the Paul Dolan Vineyards Estate Cabernet and honestly couldn’t believe the price. This easily drinks circles around most $40 Napa Cabernet with gorgeous, concentrated fruit and beautifully structured tannins from two estate vineyards that share striking geographical similarities with Bordeaux’s Medoc region. Wine Enthusiast awarded it 91 points and called Paul Dolan “a leader of the pack for decades” in organic Mendocino winemaking.

What struck me most was the purity of fruit and which is apparent in each and every sip. This isn’t the industrial monocrop farming that used to be associated with Mendocino – it’s living ecosystem viticulture with cover crops, beneficial insects, and soil health practices that translate directly to wine quality.

Original price was: $30.00.Current price is: $25.00.

There are not a considerable number of producers making estate-certified organic Cabernet Sauvignon in Mendocino. This producer has been a leader of the pack for decades. This glass of wine notes the purity of the fruit source and the care taken in the vineyard. Notes of succulent baked plum, dark cherry, cinnamon spice, dried Sage, and cocoa nib saunter toward the palate. pair with grilled t-bone steak and baked potato with the fixings

For years now, Paul Dolan has been a pioneer in Mendocino County, with a respect for the land and farming practices that go well above the norm. In the summer, the vineyard is full of drought-tolerant and heat-loving species including sunflowers, safflower, and cowpeas. Plants surrounding the vines are an essential prerequisite for a thriving ecosystem in a vineyard that is alive with countless insect species, small ground animals, and an array of birds from the beautiful Western Bluebirds to hawks and owls.

Their Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from two single vineyard sites in the heart of Mendocino County – La Ribera Vineyard and Home Ranch Vineyard. Bounded by the Russian River and Mayacamas mountains, La Ribera Vineyard is a patchwork of soils and a perfect medium for growing bright aromatic fruit.
