Patz & Hall Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2022

Wine Spectator #22 Wine of the Year (2025 Top 100 List)

93 Points, Wine Spectator – 92 Points, James Suckling

This is always one of the benchmark bottlings in Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, especially for the price, but in the 2022 vintage the stakes were raised significantly. This baby ended up all the way at #22 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines of the year list. That makes complete sense to me when you think about Patz & Hall’s impact on the region, and the quality that somehow seems to only be getting better.

This wine was made from a few specific blocks from some of the most illustrious vineyards in the region. We’re talking Dutton Ranch, Gap’s Crown, Pisoni and Zio Tony Vineyard that all help contribute to this home-run bottling and the crazy accolades that come attached.

Original price was: $50.00.Current price is: $35.00.

93 Points, Wine Spectator
Ripe, succulent peach, apricot and mango flavors are generous and juicy, with notes of toasted coconut, crème anglaise, tangerine and orange blossoms, plus a drizzle of wildflower honey. The intensity persists on the finish, with hints of shortbread and grilled pineapple that linger.

92 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of golden apples, pears, butterscotch, hazelnuts and lemon cream. On the palate, flavors of candied citrus, caramel and green apples. A stylized yet polished wine.

The uber-famous Patz & Hall has long been one of California’s greatest wine treasures. Known for producing world class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they have access to some of the best sites in all of California from nearly 100 years of combined experience and relationships formed by founders Donald Patz and James Hall.

With access to vineyards like Pisoni, Dutton Ranch, Martinelli, Hyde and Hudson, it’s no wonder the duo turned into one of the wine world’s preeminent producers of top tier Chardonnay. For years, wine critics, Chardonnay enthusiasts and sommeliers in some of the finest restaurants around the world have clamored to get their hands on the Patz & Hall Chardonnay.

In their latest vintage, 2022, this Sonoma Coast stunner found its way all the way at #22 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year list. If you know the history of this estate and you’ve been following them of late, this should come as no surprise!
