Panther Creek Cellars Pinot Noir Carter Vineyard 2015

92 Points, Vinous – 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast

This is a special library offering that I’m able to bring to you today at essentially a closeout price. It’s such a good deal, I can only send it to about 20% of the list, as I suspect it’s going to fly out the door at this crazy price.

This is perfectly aged, 10-year old, single-vineyard Oregon Pinot Noir made by an absolute legend. Both Vinous and Wine Enthusiast awarded it 92 points, praising its “juicy black raspberry and cherry-vanilla” notes and “fine balance and proportion” with Enthusiast calling the Eola Amity-Hills site “A Top-notch vineyard”. This is classic Oregon Pinot Noir at its very best – violets and red fruits with incredible structure and finesse.

Original price was: $65.00.Current price is: $26.00.

92 Points, Vinous

Limpid ruby-red. Suave, highly perfurmed red berry and cherry preserve scents are complemented by suggestions of baking spices and cola, along with a subtle floral overtone. Sweet and pliant in the mouth, it offers juicy black raspberry, cherry-vanilla and rose pastille flavors and a smoky mineral quality that builds in the glass. The spice and floral notes repeat on a very long, smooth finish framed by rounded, harmonious tannins.

92 Points, Wine Enthusiast

The top-notch vineyard delivers a big, juicy mouthful of ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit in this wine. Its refreshing acidity is a fine counterpoint to the barrel flavors from time spent in 38% new French oak. Still young and ageworthy, it’s already showing fine balance and proportion.

Ken Wright, a major fixture in Oregon Pinot Noir history was the one who established Panther Creek Cellars in 1986. He quickly became known for producing rich, fruit-forward Pinot Noirs that were highly sought after by collectors and became a particular favorite of Robert Parker, Jr.

The winery’s reputation was built on both blended wines and single-vineyard bottlings from prestigious sites like Shea Vineyard, Temperance Hill, and Freedom Hill along with more hidden projects like Carter Vineyard.

In 1989, Wright relocated Panther Creek to the Power Station in McMinnville. Five years later, Mark Vlossak of St. Innocent became the consulting winemaker, solidifying the winery’s award-winning style. They eventually moved back to Dundee in the late 1990’s where they have remained a staple and a must-stop for true Pinot lovers.
