Far Niente has launched themselves into stardom worldwide by consistently making some of the best and most exciting Cabernets. I would argue that where they took it up a few notches in quality and stature is when they committed mass amounts of resources and energy into their Nickel & Nickel Single Vineyard bottlings.
They are some of the best expressions of Oakville and Yountville single-vineyard Cabernet produced most years, and in Napa Valley’s exceptional 2019 vintage – it’s not surprising that these wines yet again remain a cut above most of their competition.
C.C. Ranch is planted in Rutherford, along the slope of a knoll just west of the famous Silverado Trail. The vineyard grows classic Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon on well-drained, gravelly loam soil and receives a variety of exposures, depending on the block and location.
Juicy with black cherry and tobacco notes, silky tannins and a voluminous mid-palate, this extraordinary vintage reminds us exactly why we’ve been making Cabernet from this gorgeous, gravelly Rutherford vineyard for more than 17 years. It is absolute elegance from start to finish.

Bright in cherry and cassis, with dusty crushed rock, dried herb and cedar playing along, this is a well-integrated wine in terms of oak and tannin. It is refined and structured, with tremendous complexity. Best from 2029–2034.

Ripe and well- built, with a solid core of blackberry, black currant and melted black licorice notes that move in unison, picking up a subtle singed alder hint on the focused finish, with subtle juicy energy running all the way through. Best from 2023 through 2034.

“This is an exceptional vintage of this exceptional wine, its foundation built around 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, with dustings of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Beautiful in berry fruit, textured and refined tannin and hints of lavender, licorice and sage, it has complexity and energy in equal measure, lengthy and beautifully focused, a truly impressive achievement of site, vintage and winemaker.” -Wine Enthusiast

Xavier Vignon’s brand spanking new CDR 100% is a thing of beauty. It’s already got a blessing from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who described this wine as, “Full-bodied, concentrated and supple”. This is a gorgeous and intricate blend that features all of the Southern Rhone appellations. This year, the blend was 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Cinsault, 7% Marselan, 6% Terret Noir. Nobody can do it like the mad scientist, Xavier Vignon.

“Another sensational appellation release is the 2014 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands. Coming from an early vintage that was over two weeks ahead of average, it has tons of spice, black raspberry, currants and blackberry characteristics, medium to full-bodied richness, a great texture and no shortage of depth or length. Already impossible to resist, drink it anytime over the coming 7-8 years.” -The Wine Advocate

“The 2016 Poggio al Granchio Brunello di Montalcino is aromatically expressive of perfectly ripe cherry, sweet herbs, dried flowers, and stony earth. There is generous purity of fruit on the palate, with mineral-rich earth, and it had the most balanced and harmonious structure in the lineup on this tasting, with present but fine-grained tannin. I love this wine for its darker mineral edge in counterpoint with crunchy and ripe fruit. It is a super-pleasurable wine right out of the gate and will continue to be so over the next 20 or more years”
