Nicholas Allen Carte Blanche Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

96 Points, Wine Spectator

This is a rare library bottling from a famous high-end Napa Valley winery from the same family that owns Chateau Haut-Brion. Nicholas Allen brings the French approach to his Carte Blanche project, evident by hiring superstar winemaker Luc Morlet to sculpt this beautiful Cab. In the incredible 2008 vintage, this one shines as a pure fruited, seamlessly interwoven Cabernet that starts off a little reserved but opens up incredibly with a little time in the glass. This is an all-time ageworthy Napa Cabernet. It’s drinking like a dream right now and should be for another 5-10 years easily.

96 Points, Wine Spectator
Fresh, plump and juicy, deep and concentrated, this full-bodied red delivers rich, lively plum, black cherry, blackberry, black licorice and spicy cedar flavors, with hints of tar. Shows both power and finesse, ending with loamy tannins.

Nicholas Allen Carte Blanche is a high-end wine brand founded by Nicholas Allen, a descendant of the family that owns the prestigious Chateau Haut-Brion in Bordeaux. The name “Carte Blanche” represents the freedom and unlimited possibilities that Allen envisioned for his Napa Valley winemaking venture.

What separates this one from a lot of the other high-end Napa projects is Allen’s French heritage and its massive role in shaping the vision. Allen’s family’s deep roots in Bordeaux’s winemaking tradition influence the style and philosophy behind Carte Blanche wines.

We have a gorgeous library release from the heralded 2008 vintage in Napa. The winemaker, famed French consultant Luc Morlet called it “an excellent vintage” and it’s showing beautifully all these years later.
