Let me put this in perspective for you. Roberto’s top Barolo, the mythical Monfortino, commands a staggering $1,800 per bottle. It’s a wine so exclusive he hasn’t released one since the 2015 vintage. But here’s where it gets interesting: in 2018, this perfectionist winemaker set his sights on Gattinara, acquiring Nervi, the oldest continuously operating winery in the region and one of the largest owners of Nebbiolo in the region.

Now, Roberto Conterno doesn’t do anything by halves. He completely overhauled Nervi’s operations, meticulously crafting wines for years before he’d even consider putting the Conterno name on the label. And when I say perfectionist, I mean it. We’re talking Thomas Keller-level of obsession here, folks. Roberto is so particular about every aspect of his wines that he even had his own stemware made because nothing on the market met his exacting standards!
