Mer Soleil began in the late 1980s, with a journey to the central coast of California in search of ideal conditions to plant Chardonnay. The Wagners’ first vineyards were in the Santa Lucia Highlands, a small but exceptional appellation about a 30-minute drive from Monterey.
With morning fog, bright sunshine and howling gusts of afternoon wind, the region’s dramatic weather leads to an extended growing season, enabling the Wagners to make wines with distinctive aromas and flavors.
This is the Reserve Pinot Noir, one of the newest wines in the Caymus Family’s fleet – and it provides arguably the best value in the bunch – a silly price for a Reserve California Pinot Noir.

“Another sensational appellation release is the 2014 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands. Coming from an early vintage that was over two weeks ahead of average, it has tons of spice, black raspberry, currants and blackberry characteristics, medium to full-bodied richness, a great texture and no shortage of depth or length. Already impossible to resist, drink it anytime over the coming 7-8 years.” -The Wine Advocate
