Mayr Gruner Veltliner Kremstal 2023 (1-Liter Bottle)

Winemaker Gerald Malat runs one of Austria’s most ambitious organic programs on his 50-acre Kremstal estate, hand-picking only grapes that meet the stringent Austrian Quality Wine Seal requirements. His big bottles are perfect for everything from hosting friends, family dinners, or bringing as gifts when you want to look like you know something others don’t. This wine delivers crisp mineral freshness, with a slight effervescence that perfectly balances a white pepper spice that you rarely find but that makes Grüner Veltliner so dang food-friendly. The Danube River’s influence creates wild temperature swings that slow ripening and concentrate flavors, resulting in something that tastes like it should cost at least twice as much.

Mayr is a storied Austrian estate with roots that date all the way back to the early 1400s when Franz Arndorfer and his ancestors began to cultivate Grüner Veltliner’s from their 50-acre estate in Austria’s Kremstal region.

For decades, the winery has been a pioneer in Austria for their organic farming practices. In addition, Franz is a firm believer in aggressive green harvests to focus on only the best physiologically ripe and healthy grapes clusters. Grapes are exclusively hand-picked, and only those that pass the sugar requirement for the wine to receive the Austrian Quality Wine Seal are accepted. It’s a rigorous process, but it pays off in spades.
