Impressively intricate but still harmonious, this is a fine example of the trend toward increasing complexity in California Sauvignon Blanc. The use of multiple clones (plus a 3% dash of Sémillon) and a variety of vessels for fermentation and aging results in an interesting mix of aromas and flavors of pear, melon, and citrus, with hints of dried herbs and wildflowers.

91 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma County is a pale silver/green hue and includes the small addition of 3% Semillon, with 13% of the wine fermented in old French oak. It shows off lifted aromas of white grapefruit zest, piney fresh herbs, white currants, and saline. Midweight and refined, it floats on the palate and has a delicate floral touch, with fresh acidity.

90 Points, Wine Spectator
Exuberant and refreshing, featuring juicy Fuji apple, peach and ripe melon flavors that complement the core of lemon and pomelo notes. Touches of fresh grated ginger and vetiver linger with green tea notes on the finish. Drink now.

Founded in 1977 with Merry Edwards as the founding winemaker and later directed by the rising star turned wine legend Dave Ramey, this Bennett Valley estate has been crafting exceptional wines for over 45 years. They were a leader in Sonoma long before Bennett Valley was even on the map, and they were one of the first with a Sauvignon Blanc.

The current release showcases their expertise with the varietal through the use of multiple clones, a touch of Sémillon (3%), and diverse fermentation vessels that add layers of complexity while maintaining beautiful balance. That’s a whole heck of a lot more thought and effort than most folks are putting into their Sauvy Bs, and it shows in spades.
