Marqués de Riscal isn’t just any Spanish producer – they’re one of the country’s most celebrated wineries (they won 2nd best vineyard in the world and 1st in Europe back in 2021), founded in 1858 in the tiny village of Elciego. What makes this release so special is that Riscal was the pioneer in developing the Rueda region, recognizing it had the perfect soils, climate to mix with indigenous grapes that were capable of producing fresh, balanced whites that could compete with the world’s best.

Here’s what serious geeks will love: Riscal presides over the largest historical wine cellar in Europe, with a collection of every vintage dating back to the 1860s. Today they own 540 hectares of vineyards with another 900 under direct estate management – ensuring the highest possible farming standards. They’ve even undertaken massive grafting of select old vines onto young rootstock to guarantee only the most exceptional fruit.
