Besides Duckhorn, perhaps no name in California is more closely connected with Merlot than Markham. They are run by star winemaker Kimberlee Nicholls who specializes in Merlot and chooses to make hers with 16% Cabernet Sauvignon and a little bit of Malbec. It’s so soft and inviting, with red and black fruits, silky smooth tannins and pure sweet fruit. This is a fantastic bottle to enjoy with some red meat or pizza.

Markham Vineyards is a well-known Napa Valley winery with a fascinating history and a particularly strong connection to Merlot. For 45 years, Markham Vineyards has been a leader in crafting world-class Bordeaux varietals in Napa Valley, with Merlot taking center stage.
Winemaker Kimberlee Nicholls runs the show at Markham, and has been a particularly bright spot ever since she took over. When Kim began her career three decades ago, she was one of the first female winemakers in the Napa Valley. Today, they still represent only 12% of the total winemakers, and Kim remains among the very few who specialize in Merlot.
