Marcel Lapierre is a legendary producer in Southern Burgundy known as being one of the members of the Gang of Four. Him along with Jean Foillard, Jean-Paul Thevenet and Guy Breton started a movement, where they took a hard 180 away from the Beaujolais Nouveau garbage being mass-produced and aimed at changing Beaujolais forever.
Spoiler alert: they succeeded.
The gang returned to old practices of viticulture and vinification favoring biodynamic practices, organic farming and hand-harvesting ripe-fruit. This method creates beautiful wines – easy drinking juicy reds that are loaded with bright, playful fruit at a higher acidity and a lower alcohol. They are perfect for spring and summer sitting.
This baby actually comes from within the Morgon cru but because the high yields on the property exceed the limit required to qualify for the Morgon appellation, these stay a little more affordable for us.
