94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Luscious and ripe black fruits ride an effortless texture in this seamless and well-balanced wine. Minutely grained tannins weave through dark plums, spearmint, cocoa and black cherries. While enticing and drinkable, the wine should have a long, more complex life ahead. Best from 2027–2040.
92 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries, roasted walnuts, vanilla and licorice with some earthy character. Fresh and juicy on the palate with a full body and polished tannins. Long finish with an array of ripe-berry flavors.
For true Napa enthusiasts, St. Supery is a name you will recognize. They’ve been making 100% estate grown wines in Rutherford and throughout Napa for decades but over the last decade plus, they’ve been doing it seemingly better each year. The 2018s and 2019s I had from these guys were excellent including today’s slamming value.
This one is so smooth and balanced even in its youth, which to me sets up very well for the next 3-5 years. It’s medium-full bodied with blue and black fruits, a little bit of creme de cassis, and a touch of sage.
Unsurprisingly, it comes with some big scores as well. Suckling gave it a 92 and called it “fresh and juicy on the palate with a full body and polished tannins”. Jeb Dunnuck agreed, going as far to call the wine, “outstanding, with a medium-bodied, fresh, elegant style as well as plenty of pure blue fruits, leafy herbs and a kiss of minerality.”
