Louis Roederer Estate L’Ermitage Brut 2019

100 Points (Cellar Selection), Wine Enthusiast

Wow! This is a very special bottling and about as good of a sparkling wine as you can find in the states for under $100, without a doubt. The 2019 Louis Roederer L’Ermitage just received a 100-point ‘Cellar Selection’ review from Wine Enthusiast – their highest honor reserved for wines of extraordinary distinction. Their tasting note reads like pure poetry: “If sunshine could be bottled, it would be this” and “It will bring a smile to your lips.”

This is L’Ermitage – Roederer Estate’s ultra-premium tête de cuvée that’s produced only in absolutely exceptional vintages. We’re talking about a sparkling wine that carries forward the legendary tradition of Champagne Louis Roederer, but made here in California using estate-grown grapes and the classic French méthode traditionnelle.

The composition is masterful: 52% Chardonnay, 48% Pinot Noir, crafted exclusively from the finest cuvée pressing – no second or third-press juice makes it into this bottle. Like the greatest Champagnes, only the very best juice from the vintage is selected, creating what Roederer calls a “noble” blend designed for extended aging

Original price was: $100.00.Current price is: $84.99.

If sunshine could be bottled, it would be this. Aromas of fresh succulent stone fruit, a hint of yeast, citrus blossoms and notes of quince on the nose. The mousse is creamy and light with baked red apples, blood orange zest, white grapefruit, sticky caramel and layered salinity with a mouthwatering finish. It will bring a smile to your lips.

95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
The 2019 Brut L’Ermitage blends 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Noir, all estate grown from one growing season, with 3.9% Chardonnay from the 2016 vintage, and a dosage of 6 grams per liter. A complete, well-integrated, medium-bodied sparkling wine with a balance of fruit and savory notes, it offers flecks of oak spice and pastry crust. Textured and creamy in style, it has a lingering brightness on the finish and should age well over the next 10-15 years.
