It’s hard to explain how rare and limited this 1er Cru release is from the iconic Burgundian producer, Louis Boillot. It comes from literally a .19 ha parcel of 45+-year old vines in Les Champonenets – one of the best places in all of Burgundy to grow Pinot Noir. All the harvest is done manual and the wine spends 18 months in barrels up to 30% new oak to balance this baby out. Such a strikingly good bottle of wine. One of the very best I had in the 2021 vintage.
Louis Boillot Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Champonnet 2021
The incredible powerhouse partnership that is Louis Boillot and Ghislaine Barthod has blossomed over the past few decades, and has never been stronger thanks to the true fruit of their labor, their superstar son.
The couple owns some of the most sought-after vineyards in all of Burgundy. Ghislaine owns vineyards all in Chambolle-Musigny – some with vines nearly 100 years old. Louis has parcels in nearly a dozen communes, stretched all the way from the north, through Gevrey-Chambertin, Volnay, and now including holdings in Beaujolais.
At some point, their son Clement will likely own the most impressive collection of real estate in the entirety of Burgundy. But for now, he toils away making some of the world’s most sought after Burgundies. For now, enjoy something truly special from one of the smallest, most intense spots in Burgundy.
