Like most people, Seth dreamed of making wine somewhere great – so he wrote to Chuck Wagner at Caymus thinking there would be no way that he’d ever land a job working for one of his idols. Surprisingly enough, the Wagners accepted Cripe to the team, where he closely learned from one of Napa’s all-time greats firsthand.
When he first got there, Cripe wanted to spend a year or two working at Caymus before leaving to start his own thing – but what he quickly realized was that there was a lot to learn from these winemaking legends and that Chuck would become like a father to him. So for eight years, Cripe was essentially the ‘third Wagner brother’. Chuck even sent him to Burgundy each winter to teach him about high-density planting and cellar practices – where the French lead the pack.
Eventually – Seth would take his first class education and hang up a shingle of his own with LOLA – a winery that was built for the purpose of making reasonably priced, fun and unpretentious wines. He started in 2008 when premium wines were king – but after the financial crisis, LOLA wines began to move… and move fast.

The gorgeous and full-bodied Goldridge Vyd Pinot Noir is made with fruit grown from 30+ year old vines and harvested in small lots before aging in 45% new French oak. It’s expertly blended to showcase the harmony of the fruit as well as the bright aromatics and luscious blackberry/red berry fruit that have made it a standard-bearer for the Russian River Valley.
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.

“Another sensational appellation release is the 2014 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands. Coming from an early vintage that was over two weeks ahead of average, it has tons of spice, black raspberry, currants and blackberry characteristics, medium to full-bodied richness, a great texture and no shortage of depth or length. Already impossible to resist, drink it anytime over the coming 7-8 years.” -The Wine Advocate

San Giorgio Ugolforte is the sister winery of Poggio di Sotto. Their 2017 presents a dark core of red and black berry fruit layered with earth, leather, smoke, and herbs. It’s a complex and elegant expression, that presents a full mouthfeel that is firm in tannin structure. The refreshing acidity frames a graceful finish. Just a classic Brunello di Montalcino.
