Laroche Mas de Chevaliere Chardonnay 2021

Domaine Laroche is directly intertwined with the history of Chablis. They’re one of the most respected and largest landholders of Grand Cru vineyard, and they own over 90 hectares of vineyards, situated amongst the best crus. They’re absolutely set.

But they didn’t become one of Burgundy’s darlings by simply having a large holding of vineyards, they also did so with a methodical approach and incredible foresight. It’s why they were one of the first in the region to make a Petit Chablis as prices started to creep into the less affordable.

It’s also why the winery had the sense more than 40 years ago to expand their holdings beyond the borders of Burgundy. They knew if they could find some exceptional terroir, a few hundred miles further south in France, it would be better suited for growing affordable but still noteworthy Chardonnay. They also viewed it as a contingency plan to account for the sometimes cruel Burgundian springs that can wreak havoc with frosts, mildew or worst yet, hail storms.

Original price was: $17.00.Current price is: $14.00.

There’s a lot to love about the 2021 Mas de Chevaliere Chardonnay. For one, it’s a cuvee that comes from several of the coolest plots in the Languedoc. That gives it plenty of time to fully ripen at its own pace, giving it an energy and focus that is unusual in this price range. It absolutely jumps out of the glass with juicy citrus notes, with a piercing minerality and fresh, natural acidity that gives it a lift and a lot of energy radiating throughout.
