Now onto the sixth generation of Krugs, the winery still operates it did from the first day, with the sole goal to make the very best Champagne no matter the vintage. Their reputation speaks for itself. Their wines are usually a treat you want to enjoy slowly and hope it never ends.
Joseph Krug, the originator, had a very original approach to Champagne making. He preferred to go beyond the notion of vintage to create the most generous expression of Champagne, every year. Thus, he founded a House in which all Champagnes are of the same level of distinction.
The Grand Cuvee is created in that exact style and with the same spirit and has been made now 170th time with the newest edition. It’s always highly allocated and highly rated and this vintage has already been hit with 3 rave 96-point reviews. The 170th blend is comprised of fruit from vintages 1998 to 2014 with the bulk of the fruit coming from the 2014 vintage. It’s drinking sensationally right now.

A lovely ferny nose and breezy seaside raciness. Bright yellow fruit on entry, a flicker of preserved lemon and cooked quince adding vibrancy. Then comes the Krug richness which spreads over the palate. The balance hovers tantalisingly between tactile precision and soft warm fruit and the finish reveals layers of cinnamon-tinctured blancmange, and the creaminess goes on. Rich but light on its feet. A definite buy and a keeper.

The numbering indicates this is the 170th blending of this Champagne. This iteration has a fine poise—it’s mature and toasty on the one hand and offers rich fruit on the other. It is a finely balanced wine that is ripe and full in the mouth. Drink this beautiful wine now.

Wonderful precision and depth right away on the nose, with dried pineapple, light apricot and hints of flint and slate. Medium-bodied palate that’s firm, bright and linear. Vivid, driven acidity adds focus and perfection. Dried lemon and a wonderful, creamy texture with a mineral undertone. Extremely long, almost endless. Sophistication here.
The mystery packs have been a big hit up until now, but I must warn you that this one is not like the others. No pack so far has contained wines quite like today’s Valentine’s Mystery Six Pack. Not only do I have a few bottles that are just perfect for the romantic day, but also an almost perfect/very highly scored wine from one of the greatest vintages in history that ordinarily goes for nearly a hundred/bottle and some other treats in there as well. All for more than 30% OFF!

The 2017 vintage really sets Groth apart from the other big name players in Oakville and in the broader Napa Valley. Why? Because it was a vintage that saw some big name wineries struggle, and Groth went ahead and made their highest ever rated regular Estate bottling. The 95-point score is actually from three separate Decanter judges, and represents one of their highest overall 2017 Napa Valley Cabs. It’s a great wine, in Big Bottle form for the best price anywhere online. No brainer.

On the nose, herbs and lavender dominate, as notes of meat stew swish in the background. As it continues to open up, various black fruits continue to emerge. The palate is marked by bright acids (perfect for fatty cuisine), black cherry and touch of leather. This is a perfect candidate for the cellar and will be a stellar pull over the next decade.

One of the best Lambruscos out there, this delicious, vibrant wine opens with enticing scents of wild red berry, yellow stone fruit, citrus blossom and a yeasty, comforting whiff of pastry dough. Made by carrying out the secondary fermentation in the bottle, the dry, delicious palate delivers pink grapefruit, crushed strawberry and tangerine alongside crisp acidity and a saline note.” -Virginia O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast
