There’s remarkable depth of flavor here from the cool, foggy sites, natural acidity that keeps everything fresh, with that perfect balance of richness and elegance that only comes from the now world-famous, well-draining Goldridge soil. Meyer lemon, white peach, candied orange, minerality. Made with neutral oak for depth and roundness without butteriness, this is Chardonnay that rivals bottles costing three times as much.

Every year I try to source the very best fruit to make a Juliana Layla Chardonnay that bears my only daughter’s name. If I can’t find something absolutely fantastic that also delivers tremendous value, I pass. No harm, no foul. Anyone can bring you a $75 Chardonnay, but can I bring you an exceptional one for under $20 on cases that blows away $50 bottles? That’s the true test for a former Jean-Georges sommelier.
It seems like every year we find something better and better, but there’s one AVA I’ve never been able to even sniff: Russian River Valley. Kistler, Kosta Browne, Aubert, Paul Hobbs… Juliana Layla? I just never could imagine it. The Russian River Valley is the holy grail of California Chardonnay, where legends are made and prices reflect that reality. Having a JL Chardonnay in this hallowed land is a dream come true.
