This comes from Jean-Marc Burgaud, who’s quietly revolutionizing Beaujolais from his organic 18-hectare estate. His vines average over 50 years old, planted at insane densities up to 11,000 vines per hectare, producing wines with serious Burgundian character that can age gracefully for years. He chooses to ferment and mature everything entirely in concrete tanks to showcase the purity of fruit and terroir of his incredible property. To me what sticks out is the raw power that this one flexes. It’s the Aaron Judge of Beaujolais.

Suckling couldn’t contain himself, calling out a “haunting bouquet” in his intro before declaring, “the combination of great concentration and finesse is breathtaking. Dazzling mineral freshness in the almost endless finish.” “The 99-point score outpaces every other Morgon that Suckling has reviewed (Nearly 1000 in total). We’re talking bottlings from some of France’s greatest vintages, bottles that go up to $80/btl or more in price. But no one is doing it as well as Jean-Marc Burgaud!
