Garofoli Verdicchio dei Castello di Jesi Macrina 2020

Categories , ,

The origins of the Garofoli winery date from the end of the 19th century, when in 1871 Antonio Garofoli began the production and sale of local wines. His son Gioacchino continued to expand the business and in 1901 he founded the Gioacchino Garofoli winery. Five generations later, the Garofoli winery is still in tact and the wines are as good as ever.

Today, the children Gianluca, Catarina and Beatrice have joined their parents in both the vineyard management and winemaking tasks. They’ve helped add innovation to the classic techniques, becoming the first winery to put their Verdicchio in Bordeaux bottles as well as the first to make a sparkling Champagne style wine from their Verdicchio grapes. All of their wines are pretty tasty, but the ‘Macrina’ just offers sensational value relative to the quality in the bottle. It’s the perfect treat partner for seafood.

Original price was: $17.00.Current price is: $14.45.

This is an extremely tasty little Verdicchio from Garofoli that uses as a little bit of a cheat code in this wine to make it so good. Using slightly late-harvested grapes adds tremendous body and longevity to this food-friendly gem which is absolutely perfect for shellfish, shrimp or pretty much anything else coming out of the sea. The coastal influence on the wine is also apparent with a hint of minerality and salinity on the finish.
